FALMOUTH, Maine (October 21, 2020) – In the spirit of creativity, OceanView at Falmouth recently hosted two mini cello concerts for residents in an underground parking garage on the retirement community’s campus. The unorthodox venue allowed for physical distancing among attendees and provided a setting with surprisingly good acoustics.

Led by resident and retired professional musician Sally Dunning and her friend John Bennet, also a retired professional musician, each concert lasted approximately 20 minutes. The performances were held at 2 and 3 p.m. on Oct. 6, giving residents flexibility and accommodating more attendees. Dunning and Bennet played a program that included Boccherini's Sonata for Two Cellos as well as works from contemporary American composers. Doors to the garage were opened to allow for air circulation, and concertgoer groups were seated six feet apart and wore masks.

“We wanted to try something new and creative for our residents while also adhering to public health best practices,” said Dawn Wheeler, OceanView at Falmouth activities and events director. “While out of the ordinary, the garage provided the perfect setting for physically-distanced concerts. Sally and John’s performance was very popular.”
