Portland School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Portland is August 30 for grades 1-12 and September 5 for PreK-Kindergarten. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Portland School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

• 8/29: Teacher Workday
• 8/30: First Student Day Grades 1-12

September

• 9/1: No School for Students and Teachers
• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)
• 9/5: First Student Day, Pre-K & K
• 9/27: First Early Release Wednesday

October

• 10/9: No School (Columbus Day)

November

• 11/3: First Quarter Ends
• 11/10: No School (Veterans Day)
• 11/22 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving Recess)

December

• 12/1: First Trimester Ends
• 12/25 - 12/29: No School (Winter Break)

January

• 1/1: No School (New Year’s Day)
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
• 1/19: First Semester Ends

February

• 2/19 - 2/23: No School (February Recess)

March

• 3/16: Second Trimester Ends
• 3/30: Third Quarter Ends

April

• 4/13: No School for Students and Teachers
• 4/16 - 4/20: No School (April Recess)

May

• 5/28: No School (Memorial Day)

June

• 6/11: Last Day for Students, Half Day Release
• 6/12: Last Teacher Work Day
