UScellular Selects Brunswick Young Hero as The Future of Good
Wireless Carrier Pledges $10K to Support Charlie Austin in His Community

Brunswick, Maine (March 11, 2021) – Today, UScellular announces Brunswick youth, Charlie Austin, as one of three winners from the company’s sixth-annual The Future of Good program. Austin was selected out of hundreds of nominations from across the country as someone who is creating positive change in their community. As a selected winner, he received $10,000 to further his cause.
After being diagnosed with a heart condition requiring a cease in playing competitive sports, Charlie decided to join the Special Olympics of Maine (SOME), specifically the SOME basketball team, as the team manager, assistant coach, and statistician. Charlie volunteers at the SOME headquarters assisting with the preparation of outerwear for SOME athletes competing in the Maine winter games. When SOME programming went virtual due to COVID, Charlie helped develop a training program called "The Warrior Program”, donating $2,500 to the creation of The Warrior Virtual Program, while also generating content and participating in Zoom calls with SOME athletes in the program. Charlie also serves on the Maine Unified SOME Youth Council and participated in the Unified Generation Summit at the National Level.
“Charlie has been doing great work in Brunswick, statewide and even nationally, and I’m excited to see his efforts rewarded through The Future of Good program,” said Tabatha McKay, area vice president/general manager for UScellular in New. England. “Amazing young heroes are all around us and UScellular is proud to showcase their work, invest in them and support them to continue to do good.”
