2 Asian Women Hit In Head With Cinder Block By Attacker: Police

Two women, ages 66 and 67, were closing up the Baltimore liquor store where they work when a man wielding a cinder block attacked them.

BALTIMORE, MD — Two store employees closing up shop at the liquor store where they work early Tuesday were ambushed by a man who repeatedly attacked them with a cinder block. The two women, ages 66 and 67, are of Asian descent and sisters.

Daryl Doles, 50, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault. It is not yet known whether the incident is being treated as a hate crime.

According to the Baltimore Police Department, the attack unfolded not long after midnight at the liquor store located in the 2000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Surveillance video obtained by NBC News shows the man pushing his way into the liquor store. One of the women attempts to shut the door but the man forces his way in and pulls her to the ground.

John Yun, a son of one of the victims and a nephew of the other victim, noted on a GoFundMe page established for the women that his aunt had black eyes and required more than 25 stitches on her head.

As of May 5, the GoFundMe page had raised $68,476 with a goal of $25,000.

Gov. Larry Hogan said he was "outraged" by Tuesday's assault.

"It’s just another example of these violent outbursts and attacks on Asians all across the country," Hogan said at a news conference Tuesday. "It was pretty hard to watch the two elderly women being smashed in the head with a brick."
