Baltimore Cancels St. Patrick's Day Parade

BALTIMORE, MD — The Baltimore St. Patrick Parade is canceled, and the Shamrock 5K will be conducted virtually.

This marks the second year in a row the parade has been called off because of the coronavirus.

The next St. Patrick's Day parade in Baltimore will be held Sunday, March 13, 2022.

"Baltimore City is not currently accepting special event permit applications," organizers said in announcing the Baltimore St. Patrick Parade cancellation.

Because the coronavirus has spread through community transmission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises people to avoid gathering with others who do not live in their household.

The Maryland Department of Health recommended canceling large gatherings in guidance issued in January.

In February, Baltimore ordered outdoor entertainment venues limited to 25 percent capacity or 250 people. Traditionally, the parade is not in a specific venue. It runs from the Washington Monument down Charles Street to Pratt Street to Market Place and attracts thousands of people.

Those who paid fees for marching or advertising for 2020 and/or 2021 will receive credits for the March 2022 event.

Shamrock 5K Race To Go On Virtually

Charm City Run Events, which manages the Shamrock 5K, is running a virtual race. People can run it from anywhere as long as they complete the 3.1 miles between March 6 and March 14. Here is registration information.
