Baltimore Early Voting 'Pretty Efficient': Voter At Camden Yards

Residents in Baltimore turned out in droves Monday morning to vote in the 2020 election.

BALTIMORE, MD — Voters turned out in droves for the first hours of early voting in Baltimore Monday morning. People can cast their ballots at eight sites in Charm City, including Camden Yards, where the line stretched around the warehouse.

Kescia Alexander, 41, and Lauren Carter, 37, who live in Charles Village, said they never received their ballots in the mail despite requesting them online. Carter said she requested hers in September, while Alexander placed her request in early October.

The mayoral race was of interest to Carter, who said "to drill down even further," she wanted to vote for her City Council representative "for the traffic light."

Alexander and Carter live on St. Paul at 22nd Street.

"Everyone who lives there wants a light," Carter said, and she wants a candidate to represent her who will push for the traffic light for safety reasons.

While they were concerned about the coronavirus, Carter said: "We have to weigh out the benefits. What would happen if I didn't go vote? I can't be the one vote" that was needed if the race were close.

"It's risk versus reward,"Alexander added. Plus, she said: "It's pretty efficient. The line has been moving."

Clifton Shambry said 200 people were in line when he arrived at 7:30 a.m. Monday. He brought a chair.

“I just wanted to make sure my vote counted,” Shambry said, just before he stepped inside to vote in person around 9:30 a.m. “People fought for my right to vote.”
