Baltimore Pug Arrested In New Jersey Gains Internet Fame

"This is what happens when you run away from home," the Cape May Police Department said with a photo of the Baltimore dog.

CAPE MAY, ND — A Baltimore dog spent time behind bars over the weekend. The escapades of Bean the pug, documented on the Cape May Police Department's Facebook page, went viral.

"This is what happens when you run away from home," police posted on Sunday, July 15, with the pug's booking photo.

The picture has been shared more than 8,300 times as of Tuesday morning.

"This guy was captured sneaking through yards on the 1300 block on New Jersey Avenue.#pugmug," police wrote.

The pug, later identified as Bean from Baltimore, was in custody for several hours before her owners contacted police, authorities told NJ.com. Police said that usually lost dogs are claimed right away so officers took the opportunity to have fun with their detainee and share her mugshot in hopes of finding her owner.

Baltimore is more than 100 miles away from the seaside resort town in New Jersey, where the pug found herself in a different kind of cage.

"I heard she was arrested for being...PUGnacious," one of the department's Facebook followers commented.

A neighbor saw the post on the police department's Facebook page and notified Bean's owner, according to NJ.com.

In short order, police alerted the public: "Update - the pug’s owner has been located and he has been released on bail."

And there was more.

"Apparently Bean, the Pug, paid her bail in cookies!" the Cape May Police Department posted.

The owner, Hadley Hubbard of Baltimore, commented on one of the photos that Bean was safe and sound following her brush with the law.

"Thank you to CMPD from Bean the pug’s family for taking such good care of her," Hubbard wrote. "She is sound asleep at home after an exciting afternoon on the run."
