Baltimore-area high school students, today, celebrated the completion of their participation in the Baltimore Ravens High School Leadership Institute, a program presented by T. Rowe Price and the Baltimore Ravens to encourage and empower students to become collaborative leaders and productive members of their communities.

The program seeks to boost academic performance and facilitate new leadership opportunities for students throughout Baltimore City and Baltimore County. During the school year, participating students meet six times, partaking in programs to develop leadership qualities in students through meaningful engagement with community, civic, and business experts. To-date, the 2020-2021 cohort of students have met virtually on sessions around “Leading Change,” “Leading Others,” “Leading Community,” and “Lead Yourself.” During those meetings, students heard from experts including Matt Stover, retired NFL player; Joe Jones, founder, president and CEO of the Center for Urban Families; and Head of T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Stephon Jackson.

"I learned that I, or anyone, should not let their age be a barrier to be a leader because when young ones believe in themselves and take the initiative, they can make a difference,” said Kelvin Dagadu, a participant in the program.

The sixth and final session served as a year-end celebration and included a service project in partnership with Soap Saves Lives, in which students assembled 2,000 care packages that will be delivered to local women’s and children’s shelters Sarah’s House and House of Ruth. Representatives from all three organizations spoke during today’s session, giving the students the opportunity to learn more about the work they do in the community.

The 2020-2021 cohort of students were nominated by their schools to participate in the program and included tenth through twelfth graders from 23 Baltimore City and County high schools. Those schools include: Academy of College and Career Exploration, Baltimore Design School, Carver Vocational-Technical High School, Catonsville High School, Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School, Dulaney High School, Edmondson-Westside High School, Franklin High School, George W.F. In their 24th year of existence, the Baltimore Ravens are just one of four NFL franchises to win multiple Super Bowls since the turn of the century. Under head coach John Harbaugh, who arrived in 2008, Baltimore has posted the NFL’s fourth-most (tied) total victories (116), won the league’s second-most playoff games (10), advanced to an impressive three AFC Championship contests, and in 2012, captured the World Championship in Super Bowl XLVII. The Ravens, who also won Super Bowl XXXV during the 2000 campaign, have made the playoffs in eight of the past 13 seasons – producing four AFC North Division titles during this time (2006, 2011, 2012 & 2018).
