Baltimore Under Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Baltimore City.

BALTIMORE, MD — A winter weather advisory calling for a wintry mix of snow and ice has been issued for parts of central, northeast and northern Maryland, including Baltimore City. The advisory is in effect from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning.

Up to 2 inches of snow and 0.1 inch ice could accumulate during the winter weather advisory period, according to the National Weather Service.

Roads may be slippery, posing hazards during both the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Drivers should slow down and be extra careful. Pedestrians are encouraged to be mindful of their first few steps outside due to the potential for icy and slippery conditions on steps, sidewalks and driveways.

"I’m committed to a quick completion of plowing and salting along major roads and residential streets," Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said in a statement.

"I'm calling on everyone to do their part. Please be a good neighbor and follow these tips that will help during this snowstorm," Scott said, suggesting the following:

  • Clear leaves from gutters and turn off outdoor faucets.
  • Ensure you have a snow shovel, deicing agents, rock salt or non-clumping cat litter.
  • Wear a hat, coat, gloves, scarf, socks and water-resistant shoes or boots.
  • Drive with caution, at a safe speed and distance from other vehicles.

There are two additional chances for snow this week, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a hazardous weather outlook due to what forecasters described as a "slight winter storm threat" Wednesday night and Thursday as well as Sunday. If these storms materialize, officials said they could cause disruptions to travel.

Gale-force winds are also possible Thursday into Friday morning, forecasters advised.
