Vaccaro's is a local Baltimore favorite that has been serving authentic Italian pastries and desserts since 1956. This family-run business is known for its cannolis, rum cake and over 30 varieties of Italian cookies and biscotti. Visitors can also stop in for gelato, sundaes, paninis and mufalatos.

Recipes come from Gioacchino Vaccaro, who founded the business in 1956 with recipes from Sicily; he grew up in Palermo, Italy. His son, Nick, has since taken over Vaccaro's, which is famous for its cannolis and gelato.

Cannolis are filled with sweet ricotta cream that has chocolate chips folded into it. Customers can order a regular, mini or chocolate-dipped cannoli as well as cannoli "chips and dip," which consists of a scoop of cannoli cream surrounded by cannoli shell pieces for dipping.

Éclairs, almond cookies and pignoli cookies won the hearts of Patch readers, who lamented the loss of these favorites when the Bel Air Vaccaro's closed at the end of 2019 due to expenses and the Harford Mall signing a new tenant for its lease.

According to the Baltimore Business Journal, there were 10 Vaccaro's locations in 2008, but several closed amid the recession and in the aftermath of the 2015 unrest.

The main Vaccaro's is in Little Italy. Others are in Canton and Hunt Valley.
