Domino Sugar Sign To Get Renovation
The sugar company is fixing up its sign that glows over Baltimore City.

BALTIMORE, MD — The Domino Sugar sign at Locust Point is set to undergo renovations.
After 70 years of gracing the skyline in south Baltimore, the components of the sign are showing signs of wear.
"Battered by the elements for decades, the badly deteriorated steel letters and border have come to the end of their useful life," Domino Sugar said in a statement, noting a "large-scale sustainable renovation" is in the works.

Structural repairs, new letters and an LED border that "will mimic the look of neon" are part of the plan, the company announced Wednesday.

The Domino Sugar sign will go dark March 1 for the renovation, which will be unveiled for the Fourth of July, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Crews will use a freight elevator and pulleys to install the 12-by-20-foot aluminum letters, the newspaper reported.
The project will cost about $2 million, according to WBFF, which noted the LED tubing is expected to save energy.
"We are going to great lengths to ensure the sign retains the same appearance, is more sustainable, stays fully lit and is built to last at least another 70 years," Domino Sugar posted on its Facebook page. "It is important to us that Baltimore is pleased with the result."
