Make Studio Springs Forward!
The Baltimore studio will feature collaborative exhibitions and events in April and May.
Baltimore, MD – Make Studio recently marked the anniversary of the pandemic shut down our physical studio. So we’re pleased to announce that almost exactly one year later, some artists have resumed in-studio sessions and we couldn’t be happier! We continue to progress forward with our phased reopening, ensuring the safety and well-being of our artists, staff, and the general public.
April ushers in celebrations of Autism Acceptance Month at Make Studio, where 75% of our artists identify as autistic persons and/ or people with autism. To mark this important month, we’re launching a new online exhibition on April 6th featuring a duo of pieces by participating artists (one piece created pre-COVID 19 and one made during the pandemic). We will also be sharing videos and other features from the artists throughout the month.
“Autism acceptance means respecting the rights and humanity of all autistic people... not by speaking over them, but by listening and looking to them as leaders. It means fighting to ensure that the universal human rights of all autistic people are respected, including and especially the rights of those autistic people with the most significant disabilities.” - The Autistic Self Advocacy Network, who took the lead in recognizing and celebrating Autism Acceptance Month 10 years ago.

Also beginning in April and carrying us further into spring, a new group show entitled BIARTISAN EFFORT – A Collaborative Exhibition will share a socially distanced indoor/outdoor opening with the closing reception for Autism Acceptance Month in our Showroom Gallery on April 24th from 2-5PM. MICA students and Make Studio artists have been meeting online regularly since fall 2020 to show and discuss work, make artistic matches, and collaborate on pieces and environments specifically for the show. BIARTISAN EFFORT will also include Zoom-based artist talk and a closing workshop/ reception in May. Check out our social media handles and website at www.make-studio.org for details.
