For Make Studio, Variety is the Spice of Life!
2021 Brings a Reimagined Anniversary Bonanza and Exhibitions Near & Far

Baltimore, MD - Make Studio is now looking forward to resuming some in-person operations at our studio this spring – stay tuned for details – and we’re also starting the year off with a variety of new shows and fun, virtual programming. February is a special time for Make Studio, as we celebrate our annual anniversary. This year we are turning the volume up to 11!
Recent times have proven more than ever that variety, in the right doses, is the spice of life, so we’re taking things over the top with a week of festivities February 22nd – 27th, instead of just one “birthday party”. Our hybrid, anniversary celebration will include a show of new and notable pieces by Make Studio artists, interactive shopping and social events, artist variety acts, and — in one way or another — we’ll have cake! (We love variety, but we also have our traditions!)
Our anniversary “bonanza” draws inspiration from our artists’ “hidden” talents (i.e., non-visual arts ones, like jazzy keyboard, singing, celebrity impressions, and joke-telling) and their favorite variety shows and performers (think Muppet Show, Laugh-In, The Dolly Parton Show, Carol Burnett Show). All events will be online unless otherwise specified – check www.make-studio.org and our social media for updates.

Adding to this winter’s mix, we have a group show for Black History Month, We Make Art, featuring Black artists from Make Studio at OCA MOCHA, opening January 31st and on view through March 12th. It features artworks that speak to Black history, current and historical figures, as well as the breadth of subject and style of these artists. Several Make Studio artists are also included in “THE NOSTALGIA SHOW!” at Sage Studio based in Austin, TX, featuring the work of 17 artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities from around the country. Our artists also have work in Everyone Quarterly ll: Architecture, published by the online journal The Art of Everyone, and the upcoming Identity Online Exhibition at the Maryland State Arts Council.
