MD 4th Of July 2021: Where To See Fireworks Plus Cancelations

MARYLAND — Last year the coronavirus pandemic took a toll on all facets of life, including 4th of July celebrations. While some Independence Day events are canceled for a second year, parades and fireworks shows will resume in some Maryland communities.

This year, the 4th of July falls on Sunday, and some celebrations are scheduled for July 3. The town of Havre de Grace will hold a "Spirit of America" festival July 3 with games, crafts, a bike parade, patriotic pooch pageant, live entertainment, apple pie bake-off, vendors, food trucks and more. A parade, concerts and fireworks display are all set for July 4 in Havre de Grace, while nearby Bel Air will hold a parade at 6 p.m. and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. on July 4.

The 75th annual parade and fireworks show will take place in Catonsville this year on July 3. There also will be a bike ride to Fort McHenry, an assortment of kids' activities and a family fun fest. Festivities wrap up with fireworks that night at Catonsville High School.

Annapolis also has plenty planned for the holiday, including three parades around the city the morning of July 4, Tall Ships to tour and fireworks at the City Dock — all set for July 4.

Ellicott City will hold a BBQ Bash and music on the Fourth of July, while Columbia plans to launch fireworks that night.

And if you want to travel to the District of Columbia, fireworks will again be shot off July 4 at the National Mall.

Which Fireworks Shows Are Canceled And Which Are On?

If you want to create a DIY fireworks display for Independence Day, be sure to check the law. In Maryland, most fireworks — including bottle rockets, firecrackers, Roman candles, fire balloons, and signal lights — are illegal.

Only gold-labeled sparklers, novelty items — such as party poppers, snap pops, and snakes — and ground-based sparkler devices are allowed in Maryland, says the state fire marshal's office.

Fireworks are prohibited in Baltimore City and Ocean City as well as Montgomery, Prince George's, Harford and Howard counties, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
