MLK Day Parade 2019 In Baltimore Marches On Amid Cold
Despite below-freezing temperatures, the parade went on for Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Baltimore.
BALTIMORE, MD — The Martin Luther King Jr. celebration brought crowds out despite freezing temperatures Monday in Baltimore City. Wind gusts were 46 mph in Highlandtown before 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, according to preliminary data from the National Weather Service.
A wind chill advisory was in effect until 11 a.m., while the wind chill made it feel like -7 degrees Monday afternoon in downtown Baltimore.
Despite the cold, the city's 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade started at noon at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Eutaw Street, proceeded south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and ended at Baltimore Street.

The viewing stand was on MLK at Franklin Street.

More than 70 groups were slated to participate in the parade, including high school and community bands, honor/color guards, equestrian units, fraternities, sororities, dance squads and civic organizations, according to the coordinator of the parade, Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.

Annapolis postponed its Martin Luther King Jr. parade due to "predicted frigid temperatures," according to a statement the city issued on Thursday, Jan. 17. Its event has been postponed until Saturday, April 13.
