Deadly Parking Garage Standoff: Baltimore Police ID Man Killed
One shooting led to another near the Inner Harbor Thursday night, according to the Baltimore Police Department.

BALTIMORE, MD — A man died after a standoff with law enforcement at an Inner Harbor parking garage Thursday night, according to police. Officers ordered him to put his hands up, and instead he pointed a gun at them and tried to shoot, police said.
"What we believe right now is that that handgun misfired," Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said at a news conference Thursday evening downtown.
"Multiple officers fired" their weapons in response, Harrison said, hitting the gunman, who died at a hospital.

Benjamin Tyson, 35, of Baltimore, was identified Friday as the deceased. At least two officers shot him, the Baltimore Police Department reported.
Authorities recovered a handgun from the garage in the 600 block of East Lombard Street, and the recovery, along with the incident, was captured on body camera, Harrison said.

Police had been pursuing Tyson in connection with an earlier nonfatal shooting nearby, according to the commissioner.
At 9:22 p.m., police said two officers from the police department's Inner Harbor unit were flagged down on Pratt Street at Market Place about a shooting that had just occurred at the intersection.
While one officer rendered aid to the victim there, Harrison said others pursued the suspect, who led them into a garage on Lombard Street.
After officers chased Tyson onto the garage ramp and ordered him to place his hands in the air, "the suspect turned around, produced a handgun and attempted to fire," Harrison said.
The shooting victim from East Pratt Street and Market Place — a 23-year-old man —was taken to a local hospital, where police said Friday he was in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.
