Red Flag Warning Issued For Much Of Maryland
The National Weather Service issued a warning to discourage outdoor burning.
MARYLAND — A red flag warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for much of Maryland due to gusty winds.
The warning, which means outdoor burning is discouraged, is issued when fires could spread out of control because of high winds and low humidity.
"A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior," the warning says. "Be careful of heat and sparks while operating any equipment, and avoid smoking in wild land areas."
