Report: Baltimore's John Waters Joins 'Mrs. Maisel' Cast
The actor/filmmaker/writer will appear on Amazon Prime Video's hit show, though Waters' role is still a secret.

NEW YORK, NY —The actor, filmmaker, writer John Waters, a native of Baltimore, has joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video's award-winning series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," Variety reported on Thursday.
The magazine reports that Waters, 74, will be featured in Season 4 of the series, which currently is shooting in New York City. Amazon has confirmed the casting. However, the nature of Waters' character is "being kept under wraps."
Waters told Variety that he was not allowed to reveal anything about the show or his role. He said he was scheduled to film one episode next week, though hinted there could be additional appearances.

"Maisel" stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam "Midge" Maisel, a late 1950s/early 1960s New York City housewife who pursues a career in stand-up comedy. In its first three seasons, the show has won 20 Emmy awards and three Golden Globes, including Best Comedy Series from both awards shows.
Waters is famous for producing and writing movies like "Cry-Baby" and the original "Hairspray," both of which are set in Baltimore during the 1950s and 60s. His most recent acting credits, according to IMDB, were on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," where he played Pornmonger Man on two episodes, one in 2020 and the other in 2021.

According to Variety, production for Season 4 of "Maisel" was supposed to start in mid-2020, but was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Filming finally began in January. No premiere date for Season 4 has been announced.
The show previously has featured stars like: Wanda Sykes, Alex Borstein, Tony Shalhoub, Kevin Pollak and Jane Lynch.
