Tractor-Trailer Crash, Fire Closes Lanes On I-695: Officials

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Several people were hospitalized and part of Interstate 695 was closed after a vehicle got stuck under a tractor-trailer, which caught fire Wednesday morning in Baltimore County, officials said. Three vehicles crashed on I-695 near the I-95 interchange on the southwest part of the beltway, state transportation officials reported. It happened before 7 a.m., and lane closures continued after 9 a.m.

One person was taken to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center and two were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department. All were in serious condition, Baltimore County fire officials said.

Crews from Baltimore City, BWI as well as Anne Arundel and Howard counties responded to the crash. By 7:30 a.m., the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department reported the fire was out.

Hazardous materials crews were called to assist with cleanup due to fluid runoff from the crash, authorities said.
