Catonsville Residents Rally to Support Congressman Cummings
They Thank Him for Standing Up to President Trump's Racist Attacks

CATONSVILLE, MD (August 9, 2019) – Thirty Catonsville residents today rallied to show their support of Congressman Elijah Cummings outside his District 7 office on Frederick Road. They stood for hours beneath hot summer sun waving signs and cheering for the Congressman as drivers passing by honked their support as well.
They held this grassroots rally for one reason: to show their appreciation for Congressman Cummings’ willingness to stand up to what they termed President Trump’s racist attacks on Baltimore City and on people of color. They said Trump’s hate-filled rhetoric is divisive and dangerous to the United States.
“We are very fortunate to have Elijah Cummings as our Congressman,” said Lois Einolf, who spoke on behalf of Indivisible Group of Central Maryland, the group that organized the rally through Facebook posts. “He is not afraid of Trump’s bullying.”

Sheila Ruth said she joined the rally because it is important for people to make their voices heard. “We must defeat Trump in 2020,” she said. “He is destroying everything that is good about the United States.”
The Reverend Maria Kennedy of Saint Charles of Brazil Catholic Apostolic Church said Trump’s racist rhetoric is responsible for encouraging and enabling white supremacy. “Congressman Cummings is the son of a sharecropper who cares about people,” she said. “We support everything he is doing to stop Trump’s hate.”

The group offered a huge “Thank You, Elijah” card for people to sign. They also offered postcards of appreciation for people to send to the Congressman.
Marjean Irwin said the time to act is now. “Trump has no morality,” she said. “We must stand together for decency.”
