Catonsville Senior Center Wins National Award

The award was for a popular photography course at the center.

The National Council on Aging recognized the for its popular photography class.

The 10-week class is called Developing Photographers - Senior Edition. It received first place in the expressive and creative arts category of NCOA's National Institute of Senior Centers' 2011 awards program, according to a press release.

The class is offered one hour a week and takes seniors through the basics of good photography and also sends them out around the center to take pictures. Their photos are then displayed around the senior center.

Senior Center Director Nicole Sheehan said that the program was popular because it allowed seniors to start with an idea and then take it all the way to fruition.

The center was one of seven senior centers in the country to receive an award, Sheehan said.
