Catonsville Store Celebrates Free Comic Book Day 2018

CATONSVILLE, MD — Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, and one store in Catonsville plans to participate in the event. Lost in all the record-breaking box-office talk about “Black Panther” and "Avengers: Infinity War" has been the popular comic book event, which historically has been tied — albeit unofficially — to the superpowered summer spectaculars.

Publishers print special issues to be given away at participating comic book stores, libraries and museums on the first Saturday in May. The event, which has been held since 2002, usually coincides with the weekend opening of a superhero-centric movie as part of an effort to harness momentum from the fiercely popular films. Some stores expect to see about 1,000 visitors.

Here's where to go in Catonsville for Free Comic Book Day:

• Cosmic Comix, 87 Mellor Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228
  
  • 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 5
  • Three rooms will be filled with comics and specials for the event.
    • The main room will be 25 percent off and feature free popcorn at 87 Mellor Avenue.
    • The Lincoln Lodge will be selling everything for $5, including comics and action figures at 81 Mellor Avenue.
    • The free room will feature free comics, a dice table and cosplayers at 75 Mellor Avenue.

Cosmic Comix will have a party going on for the event, with coupons for Peace of Pizza and balloons.
