  1. The unemployment rate in the Catonsville area has improved since the beginning of the pandemic, following the same trend as Baltimore County overall. The Baltimore County unemployment rate was 5.7 percent in the most recent May figures, which is much improved from May 2020 when the rate was 9.6 percent. Catonsville also showed improvement between April and May 2021. (Read more on Patch)
  2. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Catonsville, and the rest of southern Baltimore County, that expired yesterday at 3:15 p.m. Now there is flash flood warning in place for the same region. Currently, that warning is set to expire at 8 a.m., but could be extended. (NottinghamMD, National Weather Service)
  3. The Baltimore County Fire Department has added 16 new engines, two rescue boats, three air units, three bariatric medic units and 22 medical units to its fleet. The new equipment will replace outdated parts and machines so the department can best serve local communities, like Catonsville (WMAR Baltimore)

  • Catonsville Can Food Collection: All donations benefit the Catonsville Emergency Assistance and the Grace AME Food Pantry. The drop off location for today is the Catonsville Presbyterian Church (4 - 6 p.m.)

  • The Maryland Zoo: The Zoo recently welcomed 11-month-old Kuruka, from the Dallas Zoo. Kuruka (Coo-roo-ka) is a male duiker (dye-ker) and came to the zoo to be paired with 4-year-old female duiker, Flower!
