CCBC Catonsville Hires New Softball Coach

Jeffrey Galbreath is a successful club coach in the area and has been an assistant at the junior college and high school levels.

CATONSVILLE, MD —Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) Catonsville announced last month that Jeffrey Galbreath has been named the school's new softball coach. Galbreath replaces Chuck Slater, who retired after 17 years at the helm.

Galbreath himself has spent 17 years coaching softball at different levels: club, high school and junior college, in addition to conducting popular hitting clinics and giving private lessons.

He'll have big shoes to fill. Slater compiled a 487-197-1 career record at CCBC, he coached 11 NJCAA All-Americans and his teams reached the National Tournament six times.

"I am excited and honored to be selected as the new head softball coach at CCBC Catonsville," Galbreath said in a press release. "I hope to continue the success that coach Chuck Slater established with the softball program. I am looking forward to working with the players."

Currently, Galbreath coaches with Wagner's Fastpitch Softball, an elite club softball program based out of Pasadena, where Galbreath lives. In 2018, Galbreath guided the program's U16 team to a 9th place finish in the USA Gold Tournament. The team ultimately was ranked No. 131 out of 640 teams in the nation.

Galbreath began his softball coaching career in 2004 with with the Lakeshore Lightning club. He was a varsity assistant on the Chesapeake High School team that won the 4A state championship in 2006 and he later spent four years as an assistant softball coach at Prince Georges Community College.

In recent years, in addition to club coaching, Galbreath has conducted hitting clinics in Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County. He also conducts private instruction for catching and hitting, according to a CCBC Catonsville release.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Galbreath was a fine catcher at Avonworth High School in the early 1980s, and he went on to play baseball at Alleghany Community College.

Galbreath currently works as an executive protection officer, and he spent 25 years working with the United States Capitol Police.
