Photos of Past Parades on Display at Catonsville Library

Catonsville native Brian P. Miller has been coming to the annual Fourth of July parade as long as he can remember.

Miller started photographing the parade in 1999. While he lives in Baltimore now, he still has friends and family in Catonsville and returns to the parade every year.

After taking hundreds of photos, Miller thought it was time to put a collection of the best ones together.

He approached the about having some of the photos on display. While his work has been on display at professional galleries, Miller thought library patrons in Catonsville would appreciate the local images.

Branch Manager Melissa Gotsch said the exhibit idea was timely given the parade the holiday next week. The library doesn't have a lot of wall space, but Miller was able to create free-standing backdrops for the enlarged photographs.

Miller said he thinks the photos capture what he sees ever year at the parade.

"I see mostly the authentic anticipation, joy, and happiness that the day brings to our community as well as the variety of unique moments that constitute our parade tradition," he said.

The photos will be on display at the library through August.
