Skate Shop Hopes to Raise Funds For Indoor Ramp Room

Ever since Ben Muñoz opened skate shop on Frederick Road in 2006, the shop has been a place for the young children and teens who like skateboarding to hang out.

Many of them have been looking for a place to skateboard, and it has always been Muñoz's dream to have an indoor ramp at his shop.

When he moved his shop to 816 Frederick Road in the same building as , he was able to create use space in the back room to create an .

The ramp is currently open during the evening and weekends after the vet hospital is closed. Muñoz would like to keep the ramp open for longer periods of time, but needs to the room to be soundproofed.

After speaking with area business promoter and radio show host Patsy Anderson, the two had an idea to host a radio show at the shop on Wednesday to help raise awareness and funds. 

Area youth spoke on the air about how they didn't want to travel to the skate park in Lansdowne to go skateboarding. On average, between 10 and 15 youth can be found at the ramp, Muñoz said.

The cost of soundproofing the room is estimated at $1,000. Currently the ramp is open at 7 p.m. during the week and on Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
