State Fare
"They've done an amazing job offering delicious food during the pandemic."
Matthews 1600
"Mattthews' service to customers during the complete lockdown was amazing. Carry out was done with the ut-most care. Our food was placed in sturdy take out containers, even adult beverages were contained nicely, and the staff were quick to bring orders curbside. Later when we were allowed outdoor dining, they made a nice place for people to sit and enjoy normalcy for awhile. I tried to spread my takeout dollars throughout the neighborhood, but often returned to Matthews for the consistancy."
Objects Found - Antiques, Art & Consignment Shop
"Objects Found is a hidden gem in Catonsville at 11 Egges Lane and Arbutus at 5409 East Drive. Regina (Reggie) Sajauskas is the quintessential small business owner with her clients best interest in mind. She and her employees show the personal attention needed to ensure their clients items are priced and displayed accordingly. Reggie adjusts to the needs of the day. During Covid the shop geared up their online store so buyers could shop from the safety of their home and offered safe, distanced curbside pickup, set up the outside of the shop for social distanced shopping with curbside pickup or delvery. Her employees have flexible hours adjusted to their school, college, or family schedule. Her shops offer a large variety of antique and Mid-Mod furniture and unique themed rooms like The Girly Room, The Guy Room (and The Guy Case), Mid-Mod, Asia, The Kitchen, Primative (oak furniture), and our rotating holiday (now Christmas) room. There’s something for everyone at Objects Found. I’ve been working for Reggie for over 10 years and I still learn something new about antiques every day. Stop in and see us. We’re open every day."
"In addition to working hard to stay open, install a lovely outdoor dining area, and serve delicious food to its customers, the owners and employees at Chef P's, especially Nick D. and Chef P., went above and beyond by participating in the first ever "Great Casserole Challenge." The Challenge asked donors to send in a check for $15 and, for each donation received, Chef P's prepared and froze a generous sized casserole tray of penne pasta with meat sauce. All the casseroles were picked up and delivered by volunteers to Our Daily Bread, My Brother's Keeper, My Sister's Place, and the Westside Men's Shelter. Chef P's prepared a whopping 697 casseroles for our neighbors in need! That deserves recognition in any year, but during a pandemic when businesses faced so many hardships, the restaurant's willingness to help those in need deserves special acknowledgement. They are my choice for Catonsville Business of 2020!"
Dimitri's International Grille
"Dimitri's has been a Catonsville landmark since first opening in 1962. This family owned restaurant has an long-standing history and tradition with many Catonsville families who have made this establishment a part of their families' dining-out experience, for both weekly and special occasion dining. The restaurant was forced to close in mid-March when the pandemic first hit. When the State gave permission for restaurants to reopen with curbside, Dimitri's had to postpone reopening because their website needed updating and Litsa and Tom, the 2nd generation, spent numerous hours educating themselves on how to reopen safely given all of the new health and safety guidelines and restrictions that were being updated on a daily basis with restaurant owners. During these months when the restaurant was closed, Dimitri's reached out to several non-profits and coordinated with them on food delivery for their organizations. I was able to coordinate with Litsa and Tom for an Easter and Mother's Day dinner delivery to my 55+ condo community, Patapsco Overlook, which overlooks Dimitri's back parking lot. During this scary and uncertain time of the early pandemic days, Litsa and Tom created a customized menu for our residents to order an Easter dinner for delivery on Easter Sunday, and the repeated the same service for a Mother's Day dinner. Their gesture was such a comfort to our community and I was flooded with calls and notes of appreciation from my neighbors on how very much appreciated having delicious food delivered to our front doors during those early days of the pandemic. With social gathering restrictions still in place in November 2020, Dimitri's once again stepped up to offer our 55+ community (Patapsco Overlook ) a scrumptous Thanksgiving dinner delivery."
