Anne Arundel Teen Fatally Shot On Christmas: Police

Police said an Anne Arundel teenager died after a shooting on Christmas. Three teenaged relatives were handling the gun, officers noted.

INDIAN HEAD, MD — An Anne Arundel County teenager was shot and killed on Christmas, the Charles County Sheriff's Office said. The victim was a 17-year-old male from Lothian, the incident report added.

Around 6:45 p.m., officers responded to a single-family home on Mattingly Avenue in Indian Head. The victim was handling a gun with two other teenaged relatives, the writeup noted. The release claims the gun fired while a 13-year-old was holding it.

Police said the bullet struck the victim in the upper body. Medics took him to an unnamed hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officers wrote.

Officials remind gun owners to keep their firearms locked and secured at all times. Detectives are still investigating the incident and how the teenagers got access to the gun.
