Chimney Fire Burns Deale Home, Displaces 5 Residents: Officials

A Deale house fire displaced five residents and caused $110,000 in damage, officials said.

DEALE, MD — Officials said a Deale house fire displaced five adult residents and caused $110,000 in damage last Thursday. The accidental blaze started in the second-floor chimney flue and spread into a bedroom and the attic, the fire department noted.

Crew members reported finding flames on the roof when they arrived around 10:23 p.m. A team of 41 firefighters controlled the blaze within 20 minutes, a press release added.

Investigators indicated that the house had smoke alarms, but they didn't sound. The occupants and neighbors spotted the flames and notified emergency services, the write-up concluded.
