Economic Development Official Resigns After Break-In Arrest in Annapolis

Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation CEO Robert Hannon was reportedly caught on camera in a neighbor's home.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The top official assigned to bring in new business in Anne Arundel resigned on Wednesday following charges that he broke into a neighbor's Annapolis home.

The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation CEO prior to his arrest, Robert Hannon, 70, was charged with first-, third- and fourth-degree burglary and theft, according to Annapolis Police. He was released from jail after posting a $100,000 bond.

Officers responded at 9:54 p.m. Thursday to a residence in the 300 block of Severn Avenue, where a woman told them that a motion-activated camera had captured Hannon, her neighbor, had broken into her home, according to a city police report.

According to WJLA, the surveillance cameras show Hannon rifling through the woman's lingerie drawer.

County Executive Steve Schuh reiterated Wednesday that Mark Hartzell, chief administrative officer of the Economic Development Corp., would serve as acting CEO.
