Anne Arundel County voters will cast ballots for president, US Senate, and decide on charter amendments Nov. 8.

EDGEWATER, MD — Voters across Anne Arundel County can finally bring the arduous presidential campaign to an end when they vote Tuesday, Nov. 8, for president, and also decide U.S. Senate and Congressional races, and cast votes on six charter amendments tied to economic development and budgets.

Maryland residents had to register by the final day of early voting, Nov. 3, in order to vote in the 2016 general election.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day, Nov. 8. Many people will vote during the peak hours, say election officials, so you may want to avoid voting during these hours: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. To avoid the longest lines you may want to vote outside of these hours.

All voters will weigh in on an amendment to the state constitution that changes the way the governor fills a vacancy of the attorney general or the comptroller and requires a special election for vacancies that occur on or before a certain date. Under current law, the governor fills a vacancy by appointing someone to serve for the remainder of the term. Under the amended law, if the vacating attorney general or comptroller was a member of a political party, the governor must fill the vacancy from a list of three names provided by the political party of the vacating official.
