Edgewater Kmart To Close In August
The Edgewater Kmart store will close in August, one of its managers told Patch. It's the latest round of closings in a retail apocalypse.

EDGEWATER, MD — The Edgewater Kmart will close its doors in August, one of its managers told Patch. The exact date has not yet been announced, they said. Kmart's national media team did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.
Transformco, Kmart's parent company, has closed several stores in recent years. The Kmarts in Frederick, Hagerstown and Hyattsville are some of the latest stores on Transformco's Maryland closing list, a 2019 report said. Transformco, which also owns Sears, announced earlier this year that it would close Sears locations in Annapolis, Baltimore and Waldorf.

A record 9,300-plus store closings were announced in 2019, but a report by Business Insider suggests that number could be even higher in 2020. These closures come as e-commerce sites like Amazon draw more customers online.
The Edgewater Kmart is located at 3255 Solomons Island Road.
