Edgewater Teen Named To U.S. Youth World Championship Team

EDGEWATER, MD -- Maddie Hawkins of Edgewater has been named to the 2019 U.S. Youth World Championship Team for U.S. Sailing. Hawkins will be competing at the 2019 Hempel Youth Sailing World Championships July 13-20 in Gdynia, Poland. Hawkins is one of 14 teens from across the country to be selected for the world championship team. Eleven of the 14 sailors will be competing at the youth world championship for the first time ever.

"We're really excited to bring a new wave of young, talented athletes to the 2019 Hempel Youth Sailing World Championships," stated Leandro Spina, U.S. Sailing's Olympic development director in a statement on the group's website. "There's so much young talent in the U.S., and we look forward to supporting the next generation of sailors on their pursuit to sail at the highest level of competition."
