EDGEWATER, MD — While hanging out in a Queen Anne's County restaurant, Edgewater resident Pamela Wendland spied a Keno sign advertising the game. The retired accountant, who loves to play that particular one, decided to play while waiting for her daughter's friend to show up. Turns out it was the best move she had made in some time. She ended up winning $30,030 on a Keno game played at The Jetty Restaurant and Dock Bar.

“I play Keno three or four times a week and I always play the 9s,” Wendland told Maryland Lottery officials after claiming her prize.

The 63-year-old first played a multiple-draw ticket with no luck.

“There were 9s there, just not enough," she said.

Although she decided she had played enough for the day, she nonetheless kept an eye on the Keno monitor.

“There were no 9s for several games in a row,” she said. “I figured 9s were due so I bought one more 8-spot ticket.”

After selecting 9, 19, 29, 39, 49, 59, 69 and 79, the Anne Arundel County resident sat back to watch the 10 games unfold.

“The 9s kept coming and coming,” she said. “I counted seven, which, with the 3X bonus, meant a $1,500 win. Then, I saw that there was one more 9 among the winning numbers. $30,000.”

Adding in a $30 win on one of her other games, Wendland's Keno take for the day climbed to $30,030.

Wendland said she intends to tackle some home repairs, celebrate her 20th wedding anniversary "in style" and share her windfall with family with her Keno prize.
