EDGEWATER, MD — A jury on June 10 found a former South River High School teacher not guilty of sexual misconduct with a student, the Capital Gazette reported. Journalist Donovan Conaway identified the defendant as ex-biology instructor 39-year-old Meredith Susan Barry Martin of Davidsonville. The newspaper mentioned that Martin was acquitted of:

  • "Five counts of having intercourse while in a position of authority"
  • "Five counts of sexual offense by a person in authority"
  • "One count of unnatural or perverted practice and sex abuse of a minor"

The Capital noted that police charged Martin in February 2020 after a student alleged that he had several sexual encounters with the teacher. Martin worked for Anne Arundel County Public Schools from 2007 to 2019, the news outlet added. She taught special education and science at Chesapeake High School until 2012 when she transferred to South River, the reporter explained.
