EDGEWATER, MD — A veteran-owned business donated a roof to an Edgewater service member on Friday. Gov. Larry Hogan attended the ceremony and thanked the veterans for their service. Hogan also gave the company a governor's citation, recognizing its efforts.

Each year, Lanham's Valor Roofing replaces the roofs of four veterans wounded in the line of duty. Since starting this "Raise a Roof for a Veteran" initiative in 2017, the business has built roofs for 10 service members.

Friday's recipient, George Welch, is a Vietnam veteran. Valor Roofing President Al Kincaid also served in Vietnam. Additionally, Kincaid's company donates its time and resources to help veterans find jobs after leaving the service.

"Far too often, our veterans did not receive the thanks, respect, appreciation, or recognition that they wholeheartedly deserved," Hogan said in a press release. "Thanks to the incredible work of veteran-owned companies like Valor Roofing, our heroes are getting the help and support they need."

The governor's speech is viewable at this link. Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary George Owings and members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department were also at the ceremony.
