Joan Beggs Klingensmith, 86, Formerly of Edgewater: Obituary

EDGEWATER, MD — Joan Beggs Klingensmith, 86, a resident of Mt. Airy, MD, for three years and previously of Edgewater, MD, died on Tuesday, November 15 at Frederick Memorial Hospital due to complications from a stroke.

Born in Moulton, IA, on February 20, 1930 to the late Roy and Helen Beggs, Joan was a graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Washington, D.C. She was a successful entrepreneur and businesswoman.

After retirement, Joan volunteered in her community, where she created a garden club that designed and completed numerous beautification projects and a 9/11 memorial. She was a member of the Loch Haven Garden Club and belonged to several card playing groups. Joan enjoyed gardening, organizing community social gatherings and traveling with her friends. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her sons, William F. Klingensmith Jr. of Lothian, MD and James M. Klingensmith of Mt. Airy, MD; her daughters in law, Sherry and Lisa C. Klingensmith and her two grandsons, Conner and Kyle Klingensmith of Mt. Airy, MD. Joan was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Jana Klingensmith and her sister, Betty Soyars.

Friends are invited to celebrate Joan's life on Wednesday, November 30, from 10 am until her memorial service begins at noon at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, MD. Interment will be private.
