Lawrence M. "Larry" O'Connor, 75, of Edgewater: Obituary

Obituary and service information for Lawrence M. "Larry" O'Connor of Edgewater from George P. Kalas Funeral Home.

EDGEWATER, MD — Lawrence M. “Larry” O’Connor, 75, a resident of Edgewater for six years and previously of Upper Marlboro for 40 years, died of cancer on Tuesday, March 6, at the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center in Harwood. Born on September 26, 1942 in Springfield, MA, to the late Lawrence J. and Anna R. O’Connor, Larry received a bachelor of science degree from both The College of the Holy Cross and the University of Maryland, from where he also went on to earn his MBA.

He served in the U.S. Navy and then began his career as a business executive in the truck dealership industry until retiring in 2013. Larry was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Annapolis Elks, the American Legion, the Navy Blue & Gold Club and the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He enjoyed golf, Navy athletics, travel and adventure activities. Larry was an active participant in the 12 step recovery program for 36 years.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris Marie O’Connor; his children, Lawrence J. (Beverly) O’Connor and Anne (Harlan) Budowski all of Edgewater; his sisters, Maryanne Donahue of Bellingham, MA and Emma Jo Smith of Dennisport, MA and his five grandchildren, Sean and Chris O’Connor, Mac, Gene and Katherine Budowski.

Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence J. O’Connor.

Friends are invited to celebrate Larry’s life on Friday, March 9, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, in Davidsonville. A private interment with military honors will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville at a later date
