Local Kids Test Toys For Upcoming Holiday Shopping Season
The magic of the holidays is already happening in Edgewater. Local youth are helping pick what will become the hottest toys of the season.

EDGEWATER, MD — Ever wonder how experts decide just which of the newest toys on the market will be the hottest ones to hunt down for the holiday season? It all happens in Edgewater.
The 2019 Goddard School Preschooler-Approved Toy Test is a huge undertaking spearheaded by preschoolers with the Goddard Schools, which has 50 locations across the country. Toy brands such as V-Tech, Leap Frog, Play Monster and Manhattan Toy Company send in samples with which the area kids play. Their opinions are highly valued, explained Courtney Heimbuck, spokesperson for Goddard Schools.
"They test a couple of toys each day for a week," Heimbuck told Patch.

Goddard Schools charges kids up to six years old with the important task of playing with interactive toys while the teachers observe and document how the toy rates among the kids based upon established judging criteria, which includes interactivity, skill development and creative inspiration.
Then the preschoolers vote to determine the Top 10 Preschooler-Approved Toys, which will be announced Nov. 1. This is the 12th year local kiddos have been able to shape the holiday shopping season.
