Snow Flurries in Maryland? Keep an Eye on the Skies Thursday

Weather forecasters predict that parts of Maryland could see a few snow flurries Thursday morning.

BALTIMORE, MD — Could Maryland see its first snowflakes of the season Thursday? Winter doesn't officially arrive until Dec. 21, but some regional metro weather forecasts are predicting sporadic flurries here and there across the region for Thursday. But it's nothing that could mess up the morning commute, they say.

Here's what weather forecasts are predicting for Thursday's weather:

  • Capital Weather Gang: Partly to mostly cloudy, snow shower? Highs: Mid-40s.
  • WJLA: Parts of the D.C. Metro may experience the first flakes of the season Thursday morning as a potent cold front slides through the Mid Atlantic. Before everyone starts freaking out, here’s what you can expect. First off, this is expected to be a very minor event, so consider yourself lucky if you see snow.
  • National Weather Service: Mostly cloudy in the morning...then becoming mostly sunny. Highs around 50. Northwest winds around 5 mph...becoming west with gusts up to 20 mph in the afternoon.

Get ready to bundle up Friday and Saturday, when the highs will only be about 40 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. It'll be a dress rehearsal for next week, when a polar express of sorts is expected to hit the area as early as Wednesday.

The Capital Weather Gang says: It is unlikely that this cold wave will be as intense as the January 2014 event because it is happening earlier in the winter and less snow is on the ground in North America..."
