State Plans Expansion of Davidsonville Park and Ride

The long-planned expansion is set to be complete by next summer, according to officials.

State highway officials announced Friday plans to double the parking spaces at the Davidsonville Park and Ride.

Crews will add 200 spaces to the lot at John Hanson Highway and Davidsonville Road in a $1.7 million construction project slated to be completed by next summer, according to a release.

“The Davidsonville lot is always full and many people park along nearby roads, so we know the new spaces will be welcome.” State Highway Administration Administrator Melinda B. Peters said in a release. “Many people are choosing transit and carpooling due to the cost of fuel and to avoid driving in rush-hour traffic.”

The construction project will also include stormwater filters, energy-efficient LED lighting and resurfacing of the entire lot, according to the release. The project will be completed in phases, allowing access to existing parking, though there may be some parking restrictions on weekends and weeknights, according to officials.

The project was funded by a transportation package that passed the General Assembly earlier this year.
