Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorms Likely Across Maryland

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch Friday for several Maryland counties, plus Baltimore.

Baltimore, MD — Just as predicted, much of Maryland is now under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. Friday, says the National Weather Service.

The primary threats are damaging wind gusts and large hail. The best chance for severe weather in our area will be in the afternoon.

The watch includes the city of Baltimore, along with Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George's counties.

A watch means that the potential exists for the development of severe thunderstorms.

Saturday and Sunday will offer sunny days with highs around 82 degrees.

But what everyone wants to know: What's the forecast for the 4th of July? The current forecast notes showers and thunderstorms are likely for the holiday.

It'll be mostly cloudy in the morning, with thunderstorms rolling in Monday afternoon, according to The Weather Channel. Heavy rainfall is possible Monday night.

Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 8pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 81. Northwest wind around 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Light and variable wind becoming northeast around 5 mph in the morning.

Sunday Night: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Independence Day: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
