West/Rhode Rivers Have New Riverkeeper

Jeff Holland has served as museum director of the Captain Avery Museum and the Annapolis Maritime Museum.

Starting in January, the West and Rhode Rivers will have a new protector.

Jeff Holland, a history buff from Hillsmere, will don the role of executive director of the West/Rhode Riverkeeper Inc., at the start of the year.

Learn a little more about Holland in this article from the Patch archives.

The Riverkeeper job was previously held by Chris Trumbauer, the Anne Arundel County Councilman for District 6, which comprises  Annapolis. Trumbauer left the organization in October to join the communications company The Hatcher Group as director of state and environmental initiatives.

Riverkeepers help to protect and restore rivers in the Chesapeake Bay region by enforcing environmental laws, advocating for better environmental policies and generally watching over the waters.

Before taking the job, Holland had served as museum director of the Captain Avery Museum and the Annapolis Maritime Museum. He told The Baltimore Sun that he hopes to contribute to those museums in some way, even with his new full-time job.
