The Howard Hughes Corporation, in collaboration with the Howard County Arts Council (HCAC), has announced that Ram Devineni, Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann, and Sarah Stefana Smith have been selected as artists-in-residence for the second annual 2019 Merriweather District Artist-in-Residence (MD AIR) program in Downtown Columbia.

Ram Devineni is an artist who broaches difficult subjects such as gender equality in India through an augmented reality comic book whose heroine is a woman and rape-survivor. Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann is a multi-media painter, muralist and installation artist who is using her work to illustrate her personal journey as a child of immigrants and first-generation American and what immigration looks like today. Sarah Stefana Smith is an artist who explores and shines a light on our relationship with barriers through her unique combination of photography, installation, sculpture and historical research.

“We are excited to welcome this talented group of artists to the 2019 MD AIR Program as we continue to establish Merriweather District as a flourishing creative hub where people and ideas can grow,” said Greg Fitchitt, President, Columbia, The Howard Hughes Corporation.
