City Of Laurel Mourns Passing of Office Manager

The Mayor and City Council are sending condolences to the family of Kathryn Harrison, who passed away on May 14.

From the City of Laurel: Laurel Mayor Craig A. Moe and the Laurel City Council are sending condolences to the family of Kathryn (Kay) Harrison who passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017 after a year-long battle with cancer.

Ms. Harrison began working for the City of Laurel in November of 2005 as the front desk receptionist—a position she held for a year before leaving.

She came back to work for the City a second time in January of 2008 as an Administrative Specialist in the City Administrator’s Office. She was promoted to Office Manager of the CA’s Office in March of 2008—a position she held until her retirement last year.

Ms. Harrison was a dedicated and enthusiastic City employee, and loving grandmother and great grandmother. Described by those who know her best as truly living life to the fullest, she went skydiving recently and loved nearly every minute of it.

Kay was born in Elkins, West Virginia but lived in Laurel most of her life. She is a past chairman of the City of Laurel 4th of July Committee, past President of the Laurel Lions Club, she was a staff member to the Ethics Commission and the Emergency Services Commission.

Ms. Harrison was an avid volunteer for several organizations, and she also worked for the Laurel Board of Trade. The Board of Trade’s Main Street Festival was near and dear to her heart. Last year, she was the parade’s Grand Marshal—smiling and waving at everyone the entire route from the front seat of a vintage convertible.

Kay is survived by her son Frankie Bowers who is a City of Laurel Code Enforcement Officer and daughter Debra Peterson, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
