Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:
1. According to Patch reporter, Rich Scinto, unemployment has increased in the Laurel area, despite the record number of job openings in the U.S. labor market. The unemployment rate in the Laurel area has seen a little improvement since the beginning of the pandemic, but the rate increased from March to April, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. 2. The city of Laurel will host a walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinic from June 14 through June 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The vaccine clinic will be held inside the Laurel Municipal Center. This event will be open to everyone age 12 and older. Moderna is the only vaccine that will be given. (WMAR-TV)
3. Prepare for Father’s Day with Patch! We want to celebrate all dads and father figures by inviting our readers to share their favorite father-child photos and sentiments. Along with the photo, you can include a heartfelt message. All submissions will be published on the Patch site of your choice up until Father's Day on June 20. (Patch)

- Food Bank – This event takes place at Our Savior Lutheran Church. All who want to serve the community are welcome! (9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.)
- Public Food Distribution – Serving our community by giving away fruits and vegetables, bread, meats, and dairy products that are donated for distribution to the needy. Boxes and bags filled with groceries to grab and go. Volunteers may call (240) 583-0996. This event will take place at Prayer Tower Bible Way Apostolic Faith Church (10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.)
- Paint Party at sweetFrog Laurel – Create the cutest elephant painting! This event takes about two hours. It includes all art supplies, step-by-step instructions and then a cup of sweetFrog to celebrate your masterpiece! Children must be accompanied by one adult. Both adults and children are welcome to participate. (1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
- Book Signing by Steven Cunningham – Steven Cunningham, author of "Your Body, Sick and Well: How Do You Know?" will be at sweetFrog. Purchase a book, speak with the author and have the book signed by him. If you support this local author you will receive 20% off your yogurt! (2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
- Christian Auto Body Grand Opening Caribbean food will be provided. (3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.)
