Hoops for 'Roots 3-0n-3 Basketball Tournament Set for March 27

All Howard County High School Students Are Eligible to Play in Tourney for Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center

Long Reach High School is hosting Hoops for ‘Roots, a 3-03-3 Basketball Tournament benefit for Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, on Friday, March 27, starting at 3 p.m. The tournament ends when everyone finishes.

All Howard County high school students are eligible to play in the tourney. Teams will be competing for a $250 cash prize in the double elimination tournament. Registration closes Friday, March 13, 2:30 p.m.

Bracket with team names, game time and location will be posted the day of the tournament. The entry fee is $10 per player, and all proceeds go to support Grassroots crisis services. Spectators’ admission is $2. Long Reach High School is located at 6101 Old Dobbin Lane in Columbia.

Last year Grassroots’ emergency and winter sheltering programs helped 500 men, women and children to achieve stable housing. Another 1,149 people were served at the Day Resource Center, where the chronically homeless have the opportunity to pursue a new path in life.

In addition, Grassroots’ crisis counselors had 3,348 face-to-face contacts last year, received 36,899 calls on the Hotline, and went out on 845 Mobile Crisis Team community emergencies, such as traumatic death events, intense family conflict, psychiatric emergencies and risk of suicide.
