Here are the top four stories in Laurel today:

1. Juneteenth will be recognized in the City of Laurel on Saturday. Mayor Craig A. Moe and the city council invite the public to the Juneteenth program, that will begin at 12:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers of the Laurel Municipal Center. Laurel residents are invited to help raise awareness of this historic event by displaying Juneteenth yard signs, participating in community events and posting to social media using #JuneteenthInLaurel. 2. Severna Park baseball crushed Laurel to set up undefeated showdown with Sherwood in state final. The last time Severna Park and Sherwood baseball teams reached the state final, each left carrying the runner-up trophy. Both made their way to Friday’s final in very different fashions as Severna Park (16-0) crushed visiting Laurel, 20-0, in five innings while Sherwood (13-0) slipped by previously undefeated Dulaney, 3-1, during state semifinal play Wednesday. 3. A task force formed in May has made several new suggestions for how Prince George’s County can best recover from the pandemic. Tuesday’s report, titled “A Redefined Future,” focuses on longer-term action. The task force’s first two reports focused on “Actions Today” and “Visions for Tomorrow.” The report makes 29 recommendations across five categories: economic recovery; education recovery; health recovery; government operations, and human and social services recovery. 4. Monica Goldson, CEO for Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), recently answered questions from parents about school plans for the upcoming academic year. Seven hundred virtual learning slots for middle and high school students are available in the fall. Applications will be available starting on June 21. The application for the virtual learning option for kindergarten through grade 6 is currently available through June 30. Goldson said that if a COVID-19 vaccine does not become available for children under the age of 12, virtual learning can continue after the first semester. (WTOP)

  • Free Estate Planning & Living Trust Workshop Live Q&A – Attend a free Estate Planning & Living Trust Workshop to discover how to best protect your family and assets. Learn how to avoid probate court. This will be presented in a way that is easy to understand. (3:00 p.m.)
