Laurel City Council Elects New President and President Pro Tem

Councilmember Michael Leszcz will serve as president for the upcoming year.

LAUREL, MD - On Monday, November 14, 2016, at the 22nd Mayor and City Council Meeting, the Laurel City Council unanimously elected Councilmember Michael Leszcz President for the coming year. Councilmember Leszcz is serving his tenth term on the City Council for the At-Large position.

Councilmember Leszcz was appointed in 2005 by Governor Ehrlich, reappointed in 2007 and 2013 by Governor O’Malley, and most recently reappointed by Governor Hogan to serve as Chairman to the Patuxent River Commission. In addition, Councilmember Leszcz currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Laurel Regional Hospital Foundation and the Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund.

Councilmember Leszcz is employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, DC, and is currently on a full-time collateral assignment as National President of the Professional Manager’s Association.

Councilmember Leszcz appointed Councilmember Valerie M.A. Nicholas as President Pro Tem. She is serving her third term on the Council from Ward 1. Councilmember Nicholas works tirelessly in the community, feeding the homeless daily, assisting people in need of emergency services, as well as mentoring young women. President Pro Tem Nicholas is also a frequent motivational speaker before diverse audiences.
