Leadership U Hosts Discussion of Teen Depression Nov. 8
Free film and panel program at Oakland Mills High School focuses on suicide depression and helping friends and loved ones
Leadership U Howard County will host a short film and expert panel discussion Thursday, Nov. 8, 7-8:30 p.m. at Oakland Mill High School, focusing on what can be done to help teens who are struggling with depression or contemplating suicide. The event is free and open to the public.
The goal of the event is to increase awareness of the devastating impact of teen depression and suicide and to arm the community with effective tools to help their friends and loved ones.
Among those participating in the panel discussion are Amanda Ganoe of Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, Juli Murray of Inquiring Minds LLC, Hayley Kline LCSW, representatives from the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and representatives from the Howard County Health
Department.

“Mental health issues are a major concern in our community and attention needs to be drawn to them. Everybody has mental health issues but it’s a problem when it becomes a mental illness and it’s not taken
care of or supported correctly,” said Amanda Ganoe of Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center.
“We want people to know that there is hope and that there are ways to help when someone they care about is
struggling. That’s why we are hosting this panel… to give folks the information they need to save lives,” said Lavila Jackson of Leadership U.
